I’ve been given the opportunity to put my ideas and interests out to the wonderful world of Sault Ste. Marie, about whatever musings I have rattling around in my head.
Let me tell you about a few things…
I moved back to “The Soo” after a year of living in the UK. My experiences there were meaningful, the places and people will stay with me forever, however that whole home is where the heart is thing, well it’s definitely a thing. Yes, travel is the best experience one can have to open their mind, but at the end of the day I couldn’t see myself living anywhere else but here.
Going from a large urban centre such as London, England with it’s hustle and bustle and never ending excitement, back to Sault Ste. Marie was tough at first. But I quickly realized that I could still live my life the way I wanted to in a smaller city.
Some people in the Soo love to say that there’s nothing to do here, but I beg to differ. There are constant weekly events to attend if you seek them out. Things to do won’t come knocking at your door.
I’ve been lucky enough to find work that I enjoy. Some of that work is done under the Loplops umbrella, which started back in 2012 as a college project. That project was to put on an event, and voila Sault Ste. Marie Festival of Beer was born. This event is now in its 4th year and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.
With FOB under our belt, along came The Emergency Festival, a multi-stage music event showcasing local and out of town talent, in the Soo’s downtown core. The name Emergency was derived from our arts & culture scene being in a “state of emergency” because of the dissolution of some downtown events.
Loplops continues to be a place for music, art and ideas. From Wednesday-Saturday you can find like minded people sharing in art & culture whilst tasting varieties of microbrewery beer, wine and spirits.
Each week Loplops brings quality entertainment unlike anything else found in Sault Ste. Marie. Local and out of town acts grace the Loplops stage, creating an intimate and unforgettable experience for concert goers. Check the website regularly for event listings.
And Loplops is only one part of many exciting things going on in our downtown.
Stay tuned for my next post…
